Book of the Covenant 1

English translation: James Cooper and A. J. Maclean, 1902 ('The Testament of Our Lord, Translated into English from the Syriac'; Edinburgh: T. and T. Clark). Public domain. This translation is from the Syriac Testamentum Domini, not directly from the Ge'ez Mashafa Kidan I. The two traditions descend from a common Greek Apostolic Tradition stream but diverge in detail. Structure: Cooper-Maclean's Book I (chapters 1 to 47) and Book II (chapters 48 to 74) are flattened into a single 74-chapter book. Each chapter is rendered as a single verse: the prose is discursive without intrinsic verse divisions. Cooper-Maclean's Introduction and Notes appendix are not part of the Testament text proper and are omitted. Some OCR artefacts from the 1902 edition's footnote apparatus remain.
